Bushfires 2019-20

The 2019-20 bushfires

Tasmania has experienced ongoing bushfires during December 2019 and January 2020. Bushfires started in Mangana north of Fingal in the North-East, and Pelham in the South on Monday 30 December 2019. A spot fire later started south of Fingal at Mt Malcom and the resulting Fingal fires continue to actively burn.

Several other significant fires have occurred in 2019-2020, including at Swansea and Memana, Flinders Island.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to work with individuals, community groups, local government and the Australian Government on recovery efforts to ensure the needs of affected communities are met as they address the social, economic, infrastructure and environmental impacts of this natural disaster.
